Nitrianska - "Nitra wine region"

History of vine growing and wine making in Nitra wine region goes far back to past, from region of Nitra are came dow the oldest historic evidences of existence of vine growing and winemaking in Slovakia. These are 3 prayers dating back to era of Great Moravian Empire (833 - 907) . It is possible to consider Nitra wine region as the most miscellaneous with the highest number of each other distinct, but locally specific vineyards. These specific soil conditions are affecting variousess of grape varieties. Soils on slopes are often having high content of skelet. In accordance to very warm and very dry lowland climatic region, where Nitrianska belongs, various micro climatic conditions caused by heterogeneous country relief are occuring. Vines are grown on south, southeast and southwest slopes and plains. Vines are trained preferentially on medium or high techniques of vine training system. Soils are brown type with sandy to silty subsoils in the bottom parts of deep soil profile, which are grading to clayey horizon.

Wine from Nitra wine region is a product obtained exclusively by total or partial fermentation of grapes or grape must, which originates in this region. Grapes from this region have higher content of acids, what is decently affecting balance and harmony. Wine is full of fruity flavours and tastes, is harmonic, ripen, full bodied and expressive.

Total volume of rainfall is 550 mm, and it varies during the year - in growing season with 20 - 30 %  higher rainfall totals compared to vegetal stand. Altitude of vineyards in the area is from 100 to 350
metres above sea level. Average air temperature in the period from May to September range from 13 ° C to 19 ° C, the average temperature in growing season is 17,3 ° C, average annual sunshine duration is 2200 hours, the sum of active air temperature during vegetation is at least 3100 ° C. geographic position and proper soil composition of Tríbeč hills and southeastern slopes of Považský Inovec are creating best presumptions for production of rich, varietal characteristic quality wines with higher aromatic profile. Application of sensible and modern methods of grape processing is creating soft and harmonic dry wines. Conditions of this region allowing to produce also excellent quality wines with attributes, foremost ice wine, when the grapes are picked and processed traditionally at -7 °C. Wines in this region are produced not only as sing varietal, but also as cuvée of more varieties, allowing to create elegant medium, which smoothness and verve fascinates.
There is up to 10 000 vines/hectare density of vineyard. Number of vine buds shall not exceed 80 000 per one hectare of vineyard for production of wine, quality wine, sparkling wine of wine region, grower's sparkling wine or liqueur wine. Maximum of 65 000 vine buds for the production of quality wines with attribute.
