There will be Less Slovak Wine on the Market

Due to the rainy weather, this year’s harvest will drop by fifteen to twenty-five percent, said head of the winemakers’ association Pavel Durisi. According to him, a warmer August and September might still save the situation.

Prices of wine in Europe are under great pressure from competition. Slovak wine producers cannot increase prices under this pressure. Durisin added that annual consumption of wine in Slovakia is about six million liters, whereas sixty percent is cheap imported wine, and the rest is quality wine from local producers. In spite of the crisis, wine sales remain on a stable level in the country. [11. 08. 2010, 14:56:06] Source: rozhlas.sk
